DevLog 07: Fleshing Ui's and Waves

This week we might not only show just new features, but our game might finally get a proper name.

We have started to implement our UI and with that we began trying out a couple of titles:

But we are not just starting to leave behind our WIP name. There is more to UI than just title screens:

We also present one of the possible causes for that game over, our reskinned enemy pirate ship

But don't anticipate just adversaries on these perilous waters; brace yourself for an array of shaders to enliven these tropical yet hazardous seas!

Our developers have been diligently toiling away to ensure our future crew's miseries are maximized. Now, our characters can be knocked out, as one unfortunate sailor discovered while lingering near a grenade explosion:

Besides nautical murder, our devs have also looked into:

Main Pirate Animations

From idling to running, our pirate crew is now fully equipped with animations to bring their swashbuckling adventures to life. And beware, for even sinking has been choreographed to ensure a dramatic exit upon Game Over.

Bomber Animations

Not to be outdone, our explosive experts now boast animations for rowing, throwing, and even sinking.

Sinking Component

Prepare for a watery demise with our new sinking component, complete with effects to shake up your ship and deliver a dramatic sinking sequence upon meeting your untimely end.

Gameloop Enhancements

The journey doesn't end when the ship goes down. With revamped game loop mechanics, you can now seamlessly transition from Game Over to restarting, complete with cinematic moments like bombers rowing away and the pause of action.

Boat Rocking Motion

Experience the ebb and flow of the open sea with configurable rocking motion.

HealthComponent

Keep an eye on your health with the versatile HealthComponent, ready to be used on everything from characters to cannons.

Pickups & Interactions

From gunpowder storage to torches and swords, interact with a variety of items to conquer infamy.

Floating Debris

Watch out for floating obstacles! With our new Floating Debris system, the seas are filled with challenges to test even the most seasoned sailor.

Fixes on Boat Steering

Navigate with confidence thanks to improvements in boat steering, ensuring smoother control and fewer unexpected surprises on the high seas.

Pirate Invade Event

Brace yourself for the Pirate Invade Event, where enemy cannons will rain destruction upon your vessel. Can you outmaneuver their deadly barrage and emerge victorious?

But that will not be all! Dangers lurk beneath the surface, ready to challenge even the most seasoned pirates. Keep an eye out for our next update as we strive to make life on the high seas as unforgiving as possible for our pirates, all in the name of entertaining our future players. Until then, fair winds and see you next week!
