Devlog 05: A new crew and a new home
Ahoy, mates! It's been a thrilling week on the high seas as our pirate crew has been busy bringing our game to life! We've got plenty to show you today!
First off, let's talk about our crew – they've truly come alive thanks to Mixamo animations. From swaggering walks to swashbuckling sword fights, our pirates are ready to take on any challenge!
But that's not all – we're proud to unveil our latest addition: a brand new boat for our intrepid adventurers! Get ready to hoist the sails and explore uncharted waters in style.
In the coming week, we'll be experimenting with transparency settings to ensure that our new sails and ropes won't obscure the action.
And for the programming side of things we did the following. We started of with working on the pickup system in the interactable system. This system easily allows players to pickup objects that may be picked up, examples for this are the torch to fire the cannons, cannonballs from the cannonball storage to load the cannons, ...
We also improved the player joining, now players will queue up inside the lobby waiting for everyone to join up, once everyone is present the game will start and the players spawn in on the boat.
We also improved the game event manager so that it will spawn events using a weighted random chance algorithm and never allows identical events to happen in succession. Now we can easily focus on adding more events :)
Regarding events, we are working on a new event, the bomber event! The bomber event will start of spawning on a random side of the boat. Once it has rowed to its target it will throw bombs to the nearest player on the ship, damaging the ship and the player if he gets hit. After throwing the bomb the bomber will row in evasive ways to try to avoid getting hit. We cannot hit the bomber with the regular ship cannons since they are too high, so we have to use the bomber's bomb to throw it back at him. The bomber event will stop once the bomber runs out of bombs or the players succeed in throwing the bomb back at him.
